Hudgins Genealogy Page

How would the birth, death, marriage or divorce index help me in my research?  If your search started with the 1900, 1910 or 1920 census, you possibly could found the family members living during those time periods.   Then you could find information concerning their birth, death etc; in the indexes.   Its is cheaper to find dates on a surname index, then to send for a certified copy of each individual vital record.  There are approximately 50 names to a page.   With a popular name like Smith, searching the death index for the volume year 1903 - 1940 could turn up over a hundred pages.  Some of the other vital records are searched year by year.

The death surname index search provides the following information:

  • Last name
  • First name, middle, suffix
  • County of death
  • Date of death
  • File number
  • The year of the search and page are listed

The birth surname index search provides the following information:

  • Last name
  • First name, middle, suffix
  • County of birth
  • Date of birth
  • File number
  • The year of the search and page are listed

The marriage and divorce indexes are similiar.
